      Description

      The npm cli supports a ping command that can be used to determine whether the public registry is available.

      » npm ping --registry=https://registry.npmjs.org/
      {}

      This is useful for debugging purposes, since it allows us to know whether the registry is working and reachable.  Nexus, instead, produces an html error page

      » npm ping
      npm ERR! registry error parsing json
      null
      npm ERR! Unexpected token < in JSON at position 1
      npm ERR!
      npm ERR! <!DOCTYPE html>
      npm ERR! <html>
      npm ERR! <head>
      npm ERR! <title>400 - Nexus Repository Manager</title>
      npm ERR! <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
      npm ERR!

      It would be nice if Nexus supported this feature.
