      Description

When I request "https://oss.sonatype.org/service/local/feeds/recentlyChangedFiles" it required authentication. Why?

OSSRH has always been configured to allow access to System Feeds only to authenticated users. Signup is free!

        Well, that's odd.

When I request the feed anonymously, I get a 401 (Unauthorized).
When I login with this account, I get a 403 (Forbidden).

        What's wrong?

It appears the only administrators have access to System Feeds. I'm actually not sure if this has always been the case (you're the first to point out that you can't access them), or if this was a change made in the interest of system stability (accessing the System Feeds on a Nexus deployment as large as OSSRH can heavily tax system resources). I'll need to check with other folks about the latter.

Can you explain how you're planning to use the data from recentlyChangedFiles feed?

I'm working on a web app that displays meta information about an open-source library (e.g. release activity, line of code, contributors etc.). So this gathers information from various sources - in order to be up-to-date I'd like to use the Maven Central feed to quickly reflect new artifacts in the app (without having to completely scan the entire repository once a week).

I just now noticed a file called "rss.xml" in the root of the repository. From the looks of it, it seems to be quite up-to-date:
        http://search.maven.org/remotecontent?filepath=rss.xml

        Is it safe to use?
